Start out in small resorts

Here are a few small family resorts close to Annecy and in the Aravis; they’re ideal for getting back into form after the summer, or for beginners, children or adults. Gentle slopes, friendly skiing areas and not too crowded. So there you have it, but hush! Don’t tell anyone!

GLIERES -PLATEAU DES- (1450)
For lovers of cross-country skiing: you’ll love the 35 km of trails on one of the loveliest of Nordic skiing plateaux.

MONTMIN (1100 - 1150) – Col de la Forclaz
Three slopes and two lifts to help you start out on skis and enjoy the pleasures of snow. There’s a wonderful view of the lake from the Col de la Forclaz!

MANIGOD (1500 - 1800)
The combined resorts of La Croix-Fry and Merdassier offer 21 downhill slopes and have plenty to offer family skiers as well as the more advanced and contemplative. Also, starting from the Col de la Croix-Fry, there are 17 km of cross-country trails on the Beauregard plateau. The resort is surrounded by the Aravis Chain and offers outstanding views.
Useful hint: a resort at the foot of the slopes. If you want to try something bigger, try the joint Merdassier – La Clusaz pass (over 120 km of slopes).

SAINT-JEAN-DE-SIXT (960 - 1034)
Four slopes to start you off before taking the ski-bus to the nearby resorts of Le Grand-Bornand and La Clusaz.

LA SAMBUY (1150 - 1850)
Ten downhill slopes on the summit of the Bauges massif; and if you like cross-country, there are 30 km of trails winding through the woods.

LE SEMNOZ (1700)
Le Semnoz is a skiing area where you can slalom between the pines in a magnificent natural setting. From the summit skiers and walkers can see the Mont Blanc chain and the Ecrins massif.
Useful hint: you can buy your ski-pass by the hour.
