There are a lot of craftsmen and women here, working in leather, wood, metal, clay, stone, etc., and letting their inventiveness and know-how flourish in the villages by the lake and in the Aravis mountains.
Here’s a small selection of craftsmen and women who’ll be delighted to welcome you to their workshops.
L’Astelle – Annecy
www.lastelle.fr
Lucile Hyacinthe-Lafarge sculpts in wood: walnut, oak, cherry, lime, Arolla pine, depending on the effect she is seeking. Her chisel carves out pine trees, snow-capped peaks, crazy toboggan descents, edelweiss… Her warm bas-relief pictures create a real mountain atmosphere.
L’éclat du bois – Giez

Joseph Deronzier turns “knurs” - sinuous excrescences of wood that are difficult to shape – on his lathe to create unique, poetic sculptures.
L'atelier du bois d'orée – Les Villards-sur-Thônes
www.boisdoree.com
Cabinet-maker Vincent Mermillod designs furniture inspired by the Alps: chests, benches, stools, sculpted boxes, etc. Beautiful patinas and honey shades give life to local wood.
Etains du lac – Sevrier
www.etains-du-lac.com
Beside the lake, in Sevrier, Michel Torrens designs his own models, closely following the already ancient traditions of pewter work.
Trays, teapots, sugar bowls, vases… The grey sheen of this elegant metal lights up the metal-worker’s studio.
